    Description

This January West Sound Radio stages its 35th Burns Supper in the event’s spiritual home The Double Tree by Hilton, Glasgow Central.

Join them as they celebrate Scotland’s National Bard on Saturday 18 January 2020. This black-tie event is a favourite in the Scottish Winter Calendar—it is quite incredible that so many people return each year to give support to the talented men, women and children who have illustrated the genius of Robert Burns in words and music. The Guinness Book of Records once claimed it was the biggest formal Burns Supper in the world, although quality, rather than quantity was always our aim! The event takes all the usual ingredients of a Burns Supper but adds its own “joie de vivre” to create an atmosphere filled with passion, compassion and good cheer.

The event is one of the first in the Burns Calendar allowing West Sound to record the evening for broadcast on West Sound in Ayrshire and Dumfries & Galloway on Burns Night 25th January. You’ll enjoy a four course banquet plus some great entertainment as we gather to celebrate the genius that is Robert Burns.

Robert Burns is recognised in the world over as the national bard of Scotland. His works reflect his love of the lassies as well as the nation’s burning desire for social equality, justice and independence. His name ranks alongside other national heroes such as William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, David Livingston, Alexander Graham Bell and Alexander Fleming.

More than 200 years after his death, his memory and his aspirations are celebrated in January each year in every part of the world where Scottish people and their descendents live. They celebrate the work of the bard in music, song, recitation and good cheer. With the foundation of music there are three other highlights during the evening, which are, the famous “Immortal Memory” speech, The Toast to the Lassies & The Reply speeches.
